To wrap up a whole month of (mostly) unprocessed eating.
We eat pretty unprocessed stuff most of the time in our house. I think that more people should include more whole foods, more fruits, veggies, and more unprocessed stuff in their daily lives. It isn’t difficult. Even if you aren’t much of a planner. As long as you have a few go-to items and recipes, and as long as you keep fruits and veggies around. They’re so tasty & so good for us. Eggs are also a great choice: super easy, super-quick that can be eaten for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. And, throw in a few veggies with your eggs and you have yourself a nice omelet or some huevos rancheros.
Would I do it again? No, probably not; not a whole month. In fact, I didn’t even make it the whole month this time. I think that to restrict yourself in this way becomes too much of a focus. I craved a burger from Chili’s. And, I think we all have to be flexible, like that day I found myself out and about at lunch time. Or, if a friend invites you over for dinner, you can’t very well tell them you aren’t going to eat what they’re serving. And, sometimes you just need something quick, and although I can make a quick meal, sometimes it requires pre-made things like tortillas.
Did I learn anything? Oh most definitely, yes. I think I ate better the whole month. And, it definitely changed my palate. I tried a Wheat Thin this month, and it was way too salty for me. But, I used to eat Wheat Thins all the time. I looked forward to my salads. And, the fruit I ate tasted was so good.
I’m glad I tried the challenge. I’m happy that it went well. And, I had so many people comment to me that they were interested in doing something like this. I would remind you, it doesn’t have to have a catchy title or be done with a group of people. You can choose to eliminate processed foods, or add in more veggies, or simply eliminate something like Wheat Thins from your diet. You can do that for a whole week, for all of your dinners, or once a week. I hear a lot about Meatless Monday now. That would be a great way to start. Try meatless and unprocessed once a week. You don’t have to make a big commitment. Just go for what you can do to make yourself healthier and happier.
