Sweet Summer Corn

The summer corn is amazing right now. Sweet and delicious. Plentiful. And inexpensive! I love late summer corn!

My neighbor was nice enough to drop off some farm fresh corn on the cob the other day. Thanks Mike!

The next day I decided we needed to have some for lunch. Well, I didn’t feel like trekking out to the grill, so I decided to cook it in my {affiliate link} Air Fryer.

Cooking corn in the air fryer is quick, easy, and roasty delicious.

If you don’t want to heat up the grill for corn on the cob, and you don’t want to heat up the oven (and the house!) the air fryer is the way to go! In fact, I think that using the air fryer to roast the corn is going to be my go-to over using the grill.

Did you know that you can cook corn on the cob in the microwave?

And, have you ever tried making Mexican Street Corn (esquites); it’s so good!

The roasted and caramelized flavors of the air-fried sweet corn are perfect.

How does Air Fryer cooking work?

You may wonder how an air fryer works. Well, an air fryer rapidly circulates a lot of hot air around your food. The hot air circulating works like a super duper convection oven, and it’s because of this rapidly moving hot air that foods get cooked so effectively.

With an air fryer, you get most of the crunch possible, like foods being deep-fried, but without all that greasy oil.

And, with rapid air circulation both the preheating and cooking times are faster than with the oven.

I love the idea of cooking with less oil and fat. And, the added bonus of not having to turn on the oven especially during the heat of summer, really appeals to me.

Keep in mind, too, that it’s not just an alternative to deep-frying, but you can roast, bake, and reheat foods in it. I love to heat tater tots and chicken tenders in it.

I have a basket style {affiliate link} Air Fryer, and I love it! Take a look at my Mozzarella Bites.

I don’t even have to cut the cobs into smaller pieces. They fit right in the basket, and these are big cobs of corn.

How to adapt oven recipes

It’s easy to adapt oven recipes to the Air Fryer. Simply lower the temperature by 25° F, and cut the cooking time down by 20%.

For example, if a recipe calls for 350° F for 20 minutes, simply air fry at 325° F for just 16 minutes. Of course, you’ll want to check this and make sure your food is done to your liking.

Corn on the Cob

The corn was so easy to make, so quick to be perfectly done, and so delicious.

This Air Fryer method my actually replace cooking the corn on the grill for me. Sometimes I like to sprinkle the corn with some BBQ Rub Spice Mix.

And don’t forget, you can use the roasted corn kernels in different recipes, like corn chowder or corn dip!

Equipment

  • Air Fryer

Ingredients

  • 2 ears corn shucked and cleaned
  • olive oil or non-stick spray
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • butter and fresh herbs for garnish as desired

Instructions

  • If necessary, cut the cobs of corn to fit your air fryer basket. Cob ends can be trimmed or cobs can be cut in half as needed. Remove the stems (or handles as I like to call them as well).
  • Drizzle the corn with oil and spread the oil around the whole cob with your hands. Or, spray the entire cob with oil spray. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Preheat the Air Fryer to 400° F, about 5 minutes.
  • Lay the cobs flat in the basket. Don’t stack the cobs; they should lay flat and have their own space in the fryer so the air can move around them.
  • Air Fry, using the root vegetables (the carrot setting) at 400° F for 15 minutes, flipping half way (the shake reminder function will let you know when).
  • Cook until kernels are tender and lightly browned.
  • Add butter and herbs to taste. If you add butter first, it might burn, so it’s better to add butter when you eat it.

My air fryer has upper and lower racks. Should the corn go on the upper or lower? Same question for cooking steaks.

Janice, besides the basket style air fryer, I also have a Breville toasted oven style air fryer. The air fryer rack on the Breville gets placed more towards the top. You’ll want to know where the heating element is in your AF, and be sure not to place the corn too close to the heating element. Keep an eye on the corn as it cooks; I’d check it halfway through, making sure it isn’t burning. As for steaks, I’ve never cooked one. I did find this post with info on rib eye steaks in the Breville: https://tastylicious.com/breville-smart-oven-air-fryer-review-bov860bss/ Hope that helps you.

This was so incredibly easy! I put 4 whole corn on the cob in mine. After it was done, I sat it in a foil lined sheet pan, put butter on top and folded foil over so it would stay warm.

This was the most perfect corn on the cob. Perfect texture at 15 mins. I did 3 ears. I sprayed a little oil over the ears about 3/4 tsp. Air fried for 15 mins. Removed ears and brushed with 1/4 c light mayo mixed with 1 TBSP lemon juice and 1/4tsp Mexican seasoning. Sprinkled with 2 TBSP grated Parmesan cheese. WW Parmesan Corn on the Cob. It was PERFECT. Definitely going to be a staple in this house!
