America’s Test Kitchen
In case you aren’t familiar with them, America’s Test Kitchen’s mission is to empower and inspire confidence, community, and creativity in the kitchen.
ATK has earned the trust of home cooks and culinary experts alike thanks to its one-of-a-kind processes and best-in-class techniques.
Fifty test cooks, editors, and product testers spend their days testing recipes, equipment, and ingredients 30, 40, up to 100 times, tweaking every variable until they understand and can stand by their findings.
In addition to their television shows, podcasts, and magazines they release several cookbooks each year.
I can vouch for their recipes. I just love everything I’ve made from them.
You can check out the recipes I’ve shared from ATK: Shrimp Ramen, Pasta in Cashew Cream, The Best Pumpkin Pie, Vegan Nacho Cheese Dip, Shrimp with Fresh Tomato Sauce, and Homemade SpaghettiOs.
Books giveaway
For our giveaway we have two great books! Check them out:
A Very Chinese Cookbook: 100 Recipes from China and Not China (But Still Really Chinese)
This wonderfully fun A Very Chinese Cookbook of Chinese food is from James Beard Award winner Kevin Pang and his dad Jeffrey. The two of them are the hosts of the hit America’s Test Kitchen series Hunger Pangs, and they show you the way to delicious Chinese cooking in this accessible, funny, heartfelt cookbook.
Have you ever seen their show? If not, try to catch an episode of two; it’s great!
From American Chinese classics like everyone’s favorite General Tso’s Chicken to Sichuan street foods like Dan Dan Mian this cookbook has it all. It even has beautiful Hong Kong dim sum favorites like Shu Mai that I look forward to trying!
This book is chock full of tips, techniques, stories, and ingredient guides, with over 100 recipes, and even a magic trick with fortune cookies which is lots of fun!
And don’t worry if you don’t have a lot of experience with Chinese food in the kitchen. There are helpful instructions and abundant photos, from the basics of successful stir-frying to folding methods for Shanghai Soup Dumplings.
There’s also a shopping guide that’ll help from choosing the right soy sauce or vinegar to buying fresh noodles.
Kitchen Gear: The Ultimate Owner’s Manual: Boost Your Equipment IQ with 500+ Expert Tips, Optimize Your Kitchen with 400+ Recommended Tools
Ok, maybe I’m super nerdy, but this Kitchen Gear book totally excites me! I love watching what leading kitchen gear experts Lisa McManus and Hannah Crowley have to say on their show. And in this book, they share what they really think about Dutch ovens, air fryers, grills, and more in this indispensable handbook for gear heads everywhere.
And this book is the perfect gift for fledgling cooks, newlyweds, cooking nerds, and new homeowners.
Ever wondered why your knives dull so quickly? Whether it’s safe to stand next to a running microwave? If compostable dinnerware is really better for the environment?
With its combination of straight-talking, science-backed advice from professional equipment reviewers Lisa McManus and Hannah Crowley, practical how-to guides, engrossing trivia, and beautiful full-color photography, Kitchen Gear is an indispensable source of collected wisdom you won’t find anywhere else.
It has their take on which pieces are (and aren’t) worth it: Spring for the high-end blender; rethink that knife block. And did you know you can make pour-over coffee with a dollar-store funnel?
And, this book includes recipes! Improve your cooking with 100+ recipes that teach you what your gear is capable of: Use your sheet pan to make the easiest-ever layer cake. Make crispy fried garnishes in your microwave. Plus, use common tools in creative ways—fully-loaded nachos on the grill, anyone?
They’ll help you keep your tools in top condition by seasoning your pans the right way, de-stinkify silicone ice trays, and getting that gunk off your toaster oven.
