We had a wonderful outing the other day; we went to the Saturday Farmer’s Market in Orange, called Orange Home Grown. Saturdays 9am-1pm rain or shine, you’ll find this little market emphasizing nutrition, sustainable practices, health and fitness, and fresh fruits, veggies, and meats.
I liked the fact that they had one area for Farmers (fresh whole foods), and a different area for Artisans (prepared foods). There were educational booths, food trucks, a little live music area with seating, and friendly people everywhere. And, how cute that they have their own newsletter called “The Juice”. Orange Home Grown is also on Facebook, take a look at them.
It wasn’t the largest Farmer’s Market that I’ve ever been to, but it was really nice. It had that friendly small town appeal that Orange is all about. All of the vendors were outgoing and ready to answer all of my questions. And, best of all, the food was fresh, colorful, and beautiful.
Some of the highlights for me were the Guerrilla Beekeepers selling honey (I just love bees), and the beekeeper himself, Bill, was there for me to bombard with questions. The husband bought some meat from Best Beef Ever. He said the steak was fantastic! There was a lady with dried persimmons and jujubes. Unusual, but awesome! Carlsbad Aquafarm was there with beautiful fresh from the sea oysters and mussels. There were several farmers with fresh fruits and veggies. And, there were different kinds of avocados!
If you are anywhere near this market, stop by and have some fun. Then, take your fresh veggies and fruits and make a feast!
