This Ginger Mocktail is a simple yet elegant non-alcoholic drink that combines spicy ginger with tart lime to make an amazing drink that’s great for special occasions as well as any weekday sipping.
Zesty flavors, with just the right amount of sweetness, this mocktail is perfect for celebrating New Year’s Eve and on into dry January and February. And, it’s actually filled with nourishing ingredients, so it’s a drink you can feel good about.

I’ve been on a ginger kick lately, making Ginger Tea, Ginger Bars and ginger flu busting soup. And it’s so good for you, with lots of antioxidants, aids in digestion, helps alleviate nausea, and is antiviral and antifungal.
Limes are packed with vitamin C, which can improve immunity, may reduce the risk of heart disease, and aids in iron absorption.
So, this drink is packed with anti-inflammatory properties.
How to make
This recipe is an easy to make ginger ale lime fizz mocktail. And it’s great for people who are just not interested in alcohol as well as people who may be talking a break from it whether long term or just for a drink or two.
You can still enjoy a festive and beautiful drink that doesn’t knock you out.
A little prep work
For a pretty presentation, add star anise to some ice cubes.
You’ll also want to make or buy the ginger simple syrup. Here’s my recipe for the homemade ginger simple syrup and I really like this one if you just want to buy it.
Place 3-4 star anise ice cubes or plain ice cubes in a highball glass.
Sugar the rim
Place the crystalized ginger and the granulated sugar in the bowl of a small food processor. And, really you don’t have to measure these, it’s just roughly equal parts. The crystalized ginger by itself would simply clump in the food processor, so you need some sugar to keep it from clumping.
Process ginger and sugar until finely chopped. This will make more ginger sugar than you need, but the rest can be poured into a plastic zip top bag and stored until you’re ready to use it again. It can also be used on other drinks for sugaring the rims, or even in your morning oatmeal.
Pour the ginger sugar on a small plate.
Smear a tiny amount of butter or honey around the rim of a glass. Dip the rim of the glass into the ginger sugar.
Now, I know smearing a tad of butter on the rim of a glass might seem a bit weird, but trust me, you won’t taste it, and it’s the best for holding onto the sugar, and it won’t melt down the side of the glass.
Make the drink
This is the easy part.
This drink was created using Q Mixers ginger ale. I’ve tried lots of ginger ales (check them out on Facebook) and Q Mixers is my favorite (and no, they aren’t paying me to say that)! It’s spicy and not too sweet. Well balanced. So, that’s what I created this recipe with. If you want to use another brand of ginger ale, the drink will probably be sweeter. You’ll want to taste as you add the ginger syrup to make sure it doesn’t get too sweet.
Pour lime juice, Q Mixers ginger ale, and ginger simple syrup over the ice in the glass. Stir gently. Garnish with a thin slice of crystalized ginger, fresh mint, and lime zest as desired.

Oh, and if you want it to be sparkly, add in some edible glitter.

Changes to the recipe
Here are some ways to change it up. Use lemon instead of lime. Try grapefruit or orange.
Add a splash of cardamom simple syrup or basil simple syrup instead of ginger simple syrup.
Go with more ginger ale.
Yes, like I said above, you can change the brand of ginger ale, but taste as you add the ginger syrup.
Can I add alcohol?
If you want to make it a grown-up version by adding alcohol, you certainly can. This is a great cocktail by adding a shot of vodka, gin, rum, or whiskey.

Ginger Mocktail
Ingredients
- Ice cubes or star anise ice cubes
Candied ginger sugared rim
- 3-4 pieces of crystalized ginger
- 3-4 tablespoons granulated sugar
- Small dab of butter or honey
Drink
- ½ lime juiced
- 7.5 ounces Q Mixers ginger ale
- 1-2 teaspoons ginger simple syrup
Instructions
- For a pretty presentation, add star anise to some ice cubes.

- Place the crystalized ginger and the granulated sugar in the bowl of a small food processor. Process until finely chopped. Pour the ginger sugar on a small plate.
