As many of you know, my brother and sister in-law are expecting their first baby soon. This means I’m going to be an aunt! I’m really excited and happy for them. They have both wanted this baby for so long. So here are some highlights from Maria’s Baby Shower.
So, needless to say, I offered to throw the baby shower. Here are some pictures, and the menu. And, as usual, I’ll post the recipes separately so keep an eye out for them.
The baby’s room will be done in yellow and brown with baby animals. So, I took the baby’s room theme and mixed it with a really cool idea I heard for a book gift.
The wonderful Nicole from My Love for Cooking gave me the idea for the books. So, we asked, “As a special favor, please buy a favorite childhood book for the baby in lieu of a card, and sign a message in the book to the baby. We can help build the baby’s library!” That childhood book request lead me to use the library card as the invite to the shower. And, I found these great downloadable library card templates from Did Someone Say Party?
We had two other special requests for the shower. “As an extra special favor,
please do not wrap your gift, as the gifts will be on display at the shower, so Maria & Dave
may spend their time with their family and friends, rather than unwrapping gifts.”
This made it much more of a party and less of a formal baby shower. And, I think it suited the mommy-to-be just perfectly. She got to socialize and not just sit in front of everyone opening gifts.
We didn’t do any shower party games, but we did have one activity. The guests were advised in the invite as well… “But, what does every baby need more of?
You guessed it, Diapers! So, we’re having a Raffle! For every package of diapers you bring you’ll receive a raffle ticket. The more diapers you bring, the better your chance at winning a Target Gift Card!” You know, I should’ve taken a picture of all the diapers because there were lots!
Menu: The idea with the menu was all salads and things that I could have already made and ready to go.
All I had to do was pull them out of the fridge when it was time to serve. That’s it. So, there was a lot of earlier prep work, but not much to do when people were there!

Peach and strawberry fruit salad with lime honey mint dressing (big unfortunate here: I didn’t take a picture of this salad. And, it was amazing! I’ll have to make it again because I loved it! Updated note: here’s the salad that I recreated from this party. It was great!)
