You might want to call these No bake chocolate oatmeal cookies without peanut butter as well. I’ve also heard that they are called frogs, Raggedy Robbins, fiddle diddles, or chocolate macaroons. The names are so interesting to me!

But I love these cookies because they are delicious, and no peanut butter needed!

I’m really excited to share today’s recipe for No Bake Chocolate Candy Cookies with you, for many reasons!

Favorite treats!

First, this recipe for No Bake Chocolate Candy Cookies is one of my favorite dessert treats, and has been since I was a kid.

My mom used to make these No Bake Chocolate Candy Cookies. I love sharing my mom’s recipes. She took good care of me and taught me lots about cooking. Want to check out more of her recipes? She often made Crescent Chicken Squares, Salad Dressing, Strawberry Shortcake, and Party Punch.

I remember being a kid and coming downstairs sometimes on Sunday mornings and there would be lots of cooled chocolate candy cookies that she had made the night before.

Oh that was such a special treat.

Candy cookie!

These No Bake Chocolate Candy Cookies are like a chocolate praline. More candy than cookie, I’d say.

But, with that oatmeal, oh my. And, yes, I ate them for breakfast, and still will!

I love these candy cookies so much I experimented with different flavor combinations. Give them all a try! Peppermint Mocha Candy Cookies, Vegan Chocolate Coconut Candy Cookies, Chocolate Covered Strawberry No Bake Candy Cookies, and Pumpkin Spice Candy Cookies.

Good Cookie Food Bloggers Valentine’s Event

And, the second reason I’m so excited to share these No Bake Chocolate Candy Cookies with you is that I’m helping to support a great cause!

It’s the Good Cookie Food Bloggers Valentine’s Event.

Be sure to scroll all the way down to see the other blogs and recipes involved in this great cause.

Cookies for kid’s cancer

Food bloggers have been good cookies for several years showing their support for Cookies for Kid’s Cancer and I’m helping to continue that!

I’m excited to support C4KC in their tenth anniversary year.

This is the second year for this Good Cookie Food Bloggers Valentine’s Event, and my first year participating in the fun!

A bunch of bloggers have gotten together because we want to make a difference in the fight against pediatric cancer!

Your support means so much

Did you know that cancer is the #1 cause of death of children by disease in the U.S.?

There are 40,000 U.S. children actively battling cancer right now.

With less than 4% of the National Cancer Institute’s budget going to all childhood cancer combined, I knew it was important for me to get involved.

Help us make a difference by donating to Cookies for Kids’ Cancer! These three companies: Dixie Crystals, Mediavine, and OXO have each pledged to match our donations raised through this campaign up to $3000!

Thanks to many of you, we have reached our goal. You can still donate and help us make an even bigger difference!

No Bake Chocolate Candy Cookies ingredient notes

Cocoa

This was one of the first recipes I learned how to make.

And, I remember asking my mom what the ingredient for “cocoa” was; if it was the unsweetened cocoa, or did it mean like the drink mix, like Nesquik. She told me that either was fine.

And, yes, I’ve made these No Bake Chocolate Candy Cookies with either unsweetened cocoa or sweetened chocolaty drink mix.

And, you know, it comes out either way; it’s just sweeter with the drink mix!

I decided to write the recipe as the unsweetened stuff because I think it’s better that way.

Also, I used Hershey’s Special Dark cacao for the cookies you see in these pictures (isn’t that a pretty color!).

Want to read more about cocoa? I have a nice quick post about Dutch process cocoa and natural cocoa – Take a look here.

Oatmeal

My mom’s original recipe calls for quick cooking (instant) oatmeal.

I generally stock Old-fashioned oatmeal in my cupboard, and I prefer the Old-fashioned oatmeal. So, I call for that in my version.

If you only have instant oatmeal, go ahead and use that.

Instant oatmeal will have a little softer texture, whereas old-fashioned will be a little more toothsome.

The recipe originally calls for unsweetened cocoa powder not hot chocolate mix and it’s quick cooking oats not old fashioned. I’m 61 and been making this since I was about 10.
