Recently I was away from the blog for a little while. Well, as some of you know, I was on vacation. I went to the lovely state of Washington where it was cold and beautiful. I loved it! So, I have some photos to share with you.
I have many eagle stories, but one I’ll share one from this trip… I was driving the rental car back to the airport at the end of the vacation. Driving along in the express lanes (They have one thing that I think California needs in these express lanes: open one direction in the morning and the other direction in the evening). Anyway, there I am driving along minding my own business, when I see up ahead a LARGE and I mean large dark thing falling out of the sky right in front of my car. It was tumbling towards the ground, falling and tumbling. I let out a “What the heck (clean version) is that!?!” and started to hit the brakes. My adrenalin started to race and all I could think of was that I was going to hit whatever that large thing was. Scared the crud out of me. Dan looked, and just as he looked at it, the thing separated into two and each one flew up and away. Whew!
We just saw the Bald Eagles’ courtship dance. See, Bald Eagles mate for life, but part of finding their mate is the dance or their courtship. They fly around going higher in the sky, then they hook their talons together and fall, tumbling toward the ground. And, just before they make contact with the ground, they release and fly away. And, Bald Eagles have a wingspan of 6-7 feet, so two of them together was easily 13 feet across! Take a look at this YouTube video to get an idea of what I saw (this isn’t my video, but I do like that the eagles are silhouetted just like I saw as I was driving).
It was amazing to see, but I just wish it wasn’t right over the freeway!! Yikes! Took me quite awhile to get over the surprise!
Anyway, those are some of the pictures of the place I like to call paradise. I hope you enjoy the photos. Where do you like to call paradise?
