Mix the shortening and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the egg, vanilla, and cream. Mix well.
Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt together into a medium bowl. Add the sifted dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, and mix well.
Chill the dough a couple of hours.
Preheat the oven to 375° F.
Roll the dough out on a lightly floured board, and cut out with cookie cutters.
Bake cookies for 8-10 minutes at 375° F.
Remove cookies from the oven, and allow to cool completely before frosting.
