Make these easy and realistic looking edible Homemade Candy Cigarettes for Halloween by dipping pretzel sticks in white chocolate, red colored chocolate, and black sugar. This novelty recipe for candy cigs is meant for a fun Halloween party for adults, not for the children.
A couple drops red food coloringand yellow food coloring if desired
2tablespoonswhite sugar
A couple of drops of black food coloring
Instructions
Break the pretzel sticks into different lengths.
Melt the white chocolate and coconut oil.
To melt in the microwave: Place the chocolate in a microwave safe dish, like a mug or small Pyrex dish. For this recipe, I suggest using a deep dish, but one that isn’t too big around, like a mug or small deep bowl.
Microwave the chocolate for 30 seconds then remove from the microwave and stir well, making sure to really get to the bottom of the bowl. Then, if it isn’t fully melted, place it back in the microwave and cook for 30 seconds more. Remove and stir again. Repeat until the melted chocolate is smooth.
To melt in a double boiler: Place water in the bottom pan of the double boiler, and make sure the water isn’t touching the bottom of the upper pan. Set it on medium heat until it’s simmering (with just some light bubbles around the outside edge. You don’t want a full rolling boil – that would be too much). Put the white chocolate chips in the upper pan and stir until the chocolate is smooth.
Next up, you’ll start dipping the pretzel sticks into the melted chocolate.
Leave a bit of the brown pretzel exposed at the tip. Scrape off any excess white chocolate from the side of the pretzel, and place the dipped pretzels on a parchment paper lined tray.
Place the tray with the dipped pretzels in the fridge or the freezer to set up for a few minutes.
Make the flame red glowing lit burning tip by adding red food coloring to the remaining melted white chocolate.
Make the black sooty embers by placing granulated white sugar in a plastic bag and adding a couple drops of black food coloring. Start with adding a little food coloring at a time, until you like the color. If you add too much food coloring, the sugar will get too wet and sticky.
Massage the bag to distribute the color into the sugar. I sprinkled on a little bit of red sanding sugar to mimic burning bits.
Dip the tips of the coated pretzels in the red melted chocolate and then dip the very end in the sugar ash. Place the dipped sticks back on the parchment paper lined tray, and let set.
Prop the candy cigs on an ashtray or plates. Sprinkle a little additional ash in the bottom of each ashtray.

Notes
For large pieces of chocolate, make sure to chop them up into small pieces. This will help it melt faster and more evenly. If you’re using white chocolate chips, they’re already in nice small pieces, so no chopping necessary. These can be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container between layers of parchment in the freezer for up to a month. The nutrition analysis is off for these, as you probably will have leftover melted white chocolate and leftover sugar ash after you're done.
