Great Places to Eat on Whidbey Island
We decided to write up this list of Great Places to Eat on Whidbey Island partly so we could keep track of all the awesome places we’ve eaten on the island.
I have an updated list of places to eat on Whidbey here so you can have more info!
The list goes from the south end of the island towards the north. These are places we’ve eaten and would recommend to people, so the list isn’t all the places on the island (though I’d love to try every place here, I haven’t done that yet).
Have you tried a restaurant that you loved on Whidbey? What was it? What did you eat there? I’d love to know so that I could try it as well!
Great Places to Eat on Whidbey Island
Starting South on the Island in Clinton
Cozy’s Roadhouse. A nice sport’s bar type restaurant with a bar. They have daily specials, and the waitstaff was awesome! We recommend trying the fish and chips and the seafood chowder.
Hong Kong Garden Restaurant. A really pretty view and good Chinese food. They also have a full bar and pool tables.
Patron Mexican Restaurant (link broken for website). Great Mexican food, and you know I love Mexican food! We’ve eaten here a few times and it’s always great!
El Corral Mexican Restaurant. (update: we went here a second time, and the service wasn’t great. This might be a hit or miss kinda place). Good Mexican food – Dan liked the Mole, and I liked the huevos rancheros, both of which are our favorite dishes. The other food we tried was just normal Mexican food. Less expensive than Patron (but El Corral charges for second fills of the chip basket).
Langley and Northward
Joe’s Wood Fired Pizza. Great hand made pizza, pita sandwiches, with wonderful friendly service. I loved the Taco Pizza I had, pictured below, and we have heard wonderful things about the Greek salad here!
Basil Cafe (Now CLOSED). So good. Asian food. We have been there a couple of times and I can’t get past the special of Thai Coconut Prawns. Dan has tried a couple of dishes, and we took guests there. Always a winner! And the service is friendly and laid back! I did make a copy cat version their Thai Coconut Prawns; you can find my Thai Basil Shrimp recipe here.
Bayview Farmer’s Market. Technically not a restaurant, the Farmer’s Market is open on Saturdays. It’s one of my favorite Farmer’s Markets, and is always brimming with fresh fruits, veggies, friendly people, tasty treats, and cute dogs on leashes. There are places to grab a bite to eat as well as fresh produce to buy from the market. They also have artists selling their crafts.
The Taproom at Bayview Corner. “Showcases craft beer and cider selections in a community atmosphere, providing a comfortable locale for locals and visitors alike.” The service here is friendly and laid back, and the selection of beers is superb! They serve sandwiches, soups, crab cakes, and some yummy stuff. I loved the BLT with crab cakes (hold the bacon on mine, please), even if it was a bit expensive.
Cafe Langley (now closed). A great place to get Mediterranean food. Everything I’ve ordered here is great. And the food is nice and healthy, unlike some of the fired fish places on the island.
The Inn at Langley. Looking for fine dining on the island? This IS the place! A multi-course meal featuring fresh seasonal foods. super yummy, and a place you want to experience.
Prima Bistro. This place is upstairs, and it’s got a wonderful view if the weather is good. I love going up here for a cocktail and a snack. “A French inspired Northwest Bistro.”
The Braeburn. A good place to get breakfast on second street in Langley.
Village Pizzaria. A fun place to get pizza right in Langley. My favorite pizza is the Spinach and Feta pizza.
Useless Bay Coffee. Mostly a coffee shop, but they also have a yummy menu of sandwiches, soups, salads, and pastries.
Double Bluff Brewing Co. A brewhouse and Taproom.

Freeland and North
China City. A traditional American style Chinese food place. The food here is great. Sometimes we’ll call here as we get off of the ferry and pick up the food to take home.
Wifire Coffee Bar. Again, mainly a coffee shop, but the sandwiches are great. They also have pastries and soups. I should also give them a shout out for their wifi, as I’m using it to write this all up!
Freeland Cafe. Great for breakfast. They also have burgers, sandwiches, and specials.
Island Mexican Tacos. A food truck that’s found a home on Whidbey. And you know I love Mexican food!
Bubba Burger. Voted the best burger on the island, and for good reason! The burgers look and smell amazing, and Dan vouched for them as being great. I tried the fish tacos, which were so good! I stopped by the other day and took a picture of their menu (below). Everything is messy. everything is delicious! And, the girls who take your order and make your burger are so awesome! Singing, shouting, probably dancing! They make the experience even better! Highly recommended!
Sandwich Deli Counter at Payless. Great sandwiches and more, and they’re always busy. Get one to go and take it out to the beach to eat! Yummy and fun!
Greenbank
Greenbank Grill. (Closed now, but I understand it will reopen) A nice restaurant upstairs that’s a great place to watch the Seahawks games. There’s a deli downstairs in the convenience store. Everything I’ve ordered here is great! Love their food, and the service is great.
Whidbey Pies. Of course they sell pies. But their sandwiches, salads, specials, and soups are yummy and fresh! One of the places we always take guests. It’s a great way to see what the island has to offer – fresh local ingredients prepared in a simple and fun way! Make sure to walk over to the cheese shop while you’re here as well.I also have a copycat version of a snadwich that used to be on their menu, the Island Trollers Tuna Melt.
Coupville
Toby’s. Toby’s is located in Coupeville, located off the shore of Penn Cove (famous for its mussels), a fun place to visit. Toby’s is part bar and part fish and chips place. The food is fun and a place that I love to take guests. Don’t expect anything fancy, but it is fun and yummy!
Kim’s Cafe (now CLOSED). A Hidden Vietnamese Gem In Coupeville. The Penn cove mussels here are great! And, they have outside seating on the pier that I think is so amazing to experience!
Knead n’ Feed (closing October 13, 2019). soups, sandwiches, salads, desserts, yummy stuff! This is a fun place to get something to eat. And, if you’re headed off to explore the island, it’s great to get a sandwich lunch to go.
And Northward to Oak Harbor
I end this list in Coupeville. There are lots of restaurants up in Oak Harbor. But, we often only get up that far north for a trip to Home Depot, so we’ve only eaten at one Mexican place up there. There are lots of chain restaurants in Oak Harbor too.

Have you been to Whidbey Island? What’s your favorite place to eat?
Hi, I live across the way in Port Townsend. Great list, will try these out next time we ferry over. 🙂
Maryann, glad we could help. We’ve had some great dining experiences on the island. BTW, we love Port Townsend. Such a lovely town. I remember going to Sirens Pub a few times – a great place!
Gosh there’s a lot of eateries on that island! I’d love to visit there one day, they sound delicious!
I’ve never visited but with so much great food, sounds like my kind of place!
It’s always nice to know where to eat according to real advice when you’re visiting a place and I also do that as a “Post-It” ^_^
I’ve never been to Whidbey Island but I want to go now based on this post! The restaurants sound amazing. I think I’d start with a pizza at Joe’s Wood Fired Pizza Oven and then move on to Basil’s Cafe!
Fraiser’s is a beautiful restaurant in Oak Harbor that serves gorgeous gourmet cuisines. The Chef/Owner himself always makes it a point to check in with his patrons. Noe’s Cafe in downtown Oak Harbor is also a great place to go for Mexican food and an awesome breakfast! Don’t forget to stop at the Shrimp Shack, especially when planning a trip to Deception’s Pass.
