Can I make mint syrup with dried mint?
Yes, and it’s delicious! Dried mint simple syrup is made by simmering sugar and water using a 1:1 ratio, and steeping the dried mint in the hot syrup. Then simply strain out the leaves and store in the fridge.
How to make
I have tips and tricks in the post, and the full recipe card can be found below.
Best Mint to Use: Really, you can use any dried mint in this recipe. And, check out my guide on How to Dry Fresh Mint. Peppermint is ideal for a bold, classic flavor. And spearmint offers a slightly sweeter, milder profile. I grow tons of Mojito Mint (a type of spearmint) in my garden. I love the lightly citrus minty flavor. And it’s perfect in mojitos.
Don’t boil the mint. Adding mint after removing the syrup from heat preserves its fresh flavor and prevents bitterness.
The steeping time directly affects the intensity. For a lighter flavor, steep closer to 30 minutes. For a stronger, more concentrated mint flavor, steep up to 1 hour. You can also increase or decrease the amount of mint for a more or less intense flavor.
Cover while steeping, this helps retain essential oils and aroma.
Be sure to sterilize the container you’re going to use to extend the shelf life and prevent spoilage.

Straining thoroughly is essential, any leftover plant material can shorten shelf life and cause spoilage. Use a fine strainer or cheesecloth to ensure a clear, clean syrup.
You can double or even half the recipe as desired.
Storage
Store the syrup in a clean airtight container in the fridge for 2 to 4 weeks. For the freshest, minty-est, flavor, use within the first 2 weeks. For maximum shelf life, ensure the syrup is strained of all fresh mint leaves and fully cooled before refrigerating.

Ways to use
There are lots of great ways to use this syrup. Add it to drinks like iced tea or lemonade. Swish some in hot tea. Make a super minty sensation with my Dried Mint Herbal Tea.
It’s perfect for cocktails and mocktails like mojitos and mint juleps. Make simple mint-flavored mocktails by mixing this syrup with sparkling water or soda water for a refreshing drink.
Drizzle over fruit and baked desserts. Add to icing and cake batters. Make mint brownies by adding some to the brownie batter.
You know I love it in coffee and lattes.

Mojito recipes
I’m a big fan of the mojito! It’s my go to drink. Of course, I always order a non-alcoholic one now. Here are some of the great versions I’ve shred on the blog iced mint mojito coffee, matcha mojito, and the peach mojito.
