Philz Iced Mint Mojito is a refreshing non-alcoholic drink combining coffee, fresh mint leaves, sweet brown sugar, and creamy cold foam. It’s the ultimate afternoon pick-me-up, and it’s amazingly delicious!
Making the drink at home lets you make it exactly how you want it too. A little sweeter, creamier, or with more coffee.

Coffee places
I’ve been going to all the coffee places in the Old Towne Orange area, and even some outside of the Plaza into other neighboring cities, and reviewing them on Instagram. And, I’ve collected them all in one place; check out my Best Coffee in Old Towne Orange.
Philz is one of my top favorites. So, it seemed only natural to make a homemade version of my favorite drink and share it with you!
Another great drink you can make at home is the Iced Lavender Latte!
As a side note, my favorite coffee so far has been the BLK dot Mojito Cold Brew Einspanner. And, well, in all honestly that’s been my favorite for a long time now (they recently changed from the BLKnd mojito to the Einspanner). This homemade mint mojito coffee would also double as a BLK dot copycat recipe. But I think more people are familiar with Philz, as they have locations across the country.
What is an einspanner?
Einspänner is a German word for a traditional Viennese coffee drink of strongly brewed coffee or espresso topped with cool whipped cream.
This drink was named after the one-horse-drawn carriages. The coachmen would be able to keep their hands warm on the hot coffee and the cream would keep the coffee warm and prevent any spillage.
The trend now is for iced coffee drinks or cold brew drinks to be topped with cold foam and called Einspänner. It’s meant to be sipped so you get a mix of strong coffee and whipped cream with every sip.
And be sure to read more on How to Make Cold Foam at home.
How to brew
So, let’s talk about how to brew the coffee for this drink.
Philz Coffee focuses on making pour over coffee. There are different styles of pour over coffee makers: classic and new.
My understanding is that Philz also uses a flat-bottomed pour over coffee maker, which is supposed to make more flavorful coffee.
Philz sells the beans that they use for their drinks as well. You can grab the Tesora coffee on Amazon.
BLK dot uses cold brew for their mojito. And you can buy cold brew pitchers on Amazon.
But in all reality, you can use any brewing method you like to make this drink. All you need to make sure of is that the coffee is good and strong!
Brew a cup of strong coffee with whatever brewing method you prefer: Pour over, cold brew, French press, or traditional drip coffee (my choice).
Let the coffee cool down before adding it to the drink. I brew a full pot of coffee, let it cool on the counter, then pop it in the fridge so it’s nice and cold.
Philz pours the coffee back and forth between two pitchers to cool the coffee and mix it with the cream and sugar. It looks fancy, but you don’t have to do this if you don’t want to.
Whatever you do, please don’t use hot coffee right on the ice, it’ll simply melt the ice and you’ll get watered down coffee.
Cream
Heavy cream works the best this this drink. It’s rich and creamy and makes that lovely cold foam.
However, you really can use any kind of milk.
The trick is lots of shaking. Pour the milk into a mason jar or cocktail shaker. Or, if your carton is about half full, you can just shake the cream in there – you want it to have lots of room for the cream to to move around.
Shake the container vigorously, about 10 seconds or so to create a frothy topper.
Sweetener
Brown sugar has that complex sweet flavor that you get at Philz or BLK dot.
If you like if “Philz way” add 1 tablespoon of brown sugar. If you like it “sweet” add 2 tablespoons.
And again, you can really add any sweetener you like here. Splenda, honey, maple syrup.
Mint
This is what it’s all about! That mint fresh flavor.
I love mojito mint; I grow it in the garden so I have it almost anytime I want it. Fresh mint is usually easy to buy at the store as well.
Place a couple of mint sprigs with the stems still attached in the bottom of the cup or glass. Most of the mint flavor comes from the stems, not the leaves.
Gently muddle the leaves and the stems with the brown sugar releasing the mint flavor. This can be done with a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon.
And, don’t twist the muddler, as this can tear the leaves, and you don’t want bits of leaves floating around your drink.
Put it all together
So let’s pull all these parts together and make that iced mint mojito coffee!
Place 2 mint sprigs with the stems still attached in the bottom of the cup. Most of the mint flavor comes from the stems, not the leaves.
Add brown sugar.
Add just a bit of boiling water. Using a muddler or the back of a spoon, pound the mint leaves to release all of their flavor. You don’t want to twist the muddler, as you’ll tear the leaves and get leaf bits floating around your drink.
Shake the heavy cream in the container, a mason jar, or a cocktail shaker vigorously for about 10 seconds to get it nice and foamy.
Add cold foam cream into the glass along with the coffee and ice. Stir until blended.
Garnish with a mint sprig.

Make it your own
One of the great things about making these drinks at home is that you can make them however you like.
I’ve found that I like mine with 1 tablespoon brown sugar, 1 cup of coffee, and light on the ice. Let me know how you like to serve your mint mojito coffee in the comments!

Recipe
Iced Mint Mojito Coffee
Ingredients
- 1-2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 3 mint sprigs with stems divided use
- ¾ cup strong brewed coffee at room temperature or cold
- ⅓ cup heavy cream
- Ice
Instructions
- Place 2 mint sprigs with the stems still attached in the bottom of the cup. Most of the mint flavor comes from the stems, not the leaves.
- Add brown sugar.
- Add just a bit of boiling water. Using a muddler or the back of a spoon, pound the mint leaves to release all of their flavor. You don’t want to twist the muddler, as you’ll tear the leaves and get leaf bits floating around your drink.
- Add a bit of the coffee and stir to make sure the sugar mixes in well. Add the ice and the rest of the coffee.
- Shake the heavy cream in the container, a mason jar, or a cocktail shaker vigorously for about 10 seconds to get it nice and foamy.
- Add cold foam cream into the glass, stir until blended.
- You can also make it “upside down” and add the cream first, then the coffee and ice so that it stirs itself a bit as you add the coffee.
- Garnish with a mint sprig.
