DIY homemade Peppermint Shower Bombs made with essential oils. I’ve also seen them called Shower steamers or shower melts.
Peppermint Shower Bombs help open the sinus, and clear the mind. Great for when you need a little pick-me-up.

What you can use these shower bombs for?
These aromatherapy Peppermint Shower bombs are great to use for colds, for stress relief, for congestion, for getting rid of headaches, and for relaxing.
These shower bombs are easy to make, and made without citric acid.
In this post I’ll tell you how to make them, how to use them, and some great info on the benefits of peppermint essential oil. Oh, and these also make great homemade gifts!
A shower bomb, or shower soother, is simply a different version of a bath bomb that melts while you take a shower.
How I ended up with a bottle of peppermint essential oil
When I made the Peppermint Patties a couple weeks ago I had to buy some peppermint oil for them.
I love adding a few drops of the peppermint oil to the vacuum cleaner filter. When I turn on the vacuum, it smells fresh and clean!
Now I have a jar of peppermint essential oil, and was thinking of other ways to use it, when these Aromatherapy Shower Bombs showed up in my Facebook feed!
I knew I had to make these Shower Bombs.
Oh and I should add, these Peppermint Bombs aren’t for eating, they are for making your shower smell amazing, and for helping you feel a bit better if you’re feeling under the weather.
They also make great gifts!
Another great gift idea that’ll help the house smell amazing, is my Simmer Pots.
Silicon Molds
And, it’s kind of funny, I actually used the same (affiliate link) mini star-shaped silicone molds for these Shower Bombs as I used to make the Peppermint Patties.
If I could find that cute star silicone mold that I used for these Chocolate Covered Coconut Bites I would totally make them in that, it’d be great for gift giving, but I can’t seem to figure out where I put it.
I definitely recommend using a silicone mold for these, as the flexibility of the silicone made it rally easy to remove the Peppermint Shower Bombs from the mold when they were dry.
These Peppermint Shower Bombs would also make a great gift for Valentine’s Day. Use a (affiliate link) heart-shaped silicone mold like this one to make cute little hearts!
Feel better
I remember many years ago that I bought something like these, and I thought they were the most awesome thing ever. Especially when you’re sick this helps you feel a little better.
All that hot steam with the refreshing peppermint scent.
Ahhhhh! It seems to me that it helps open the sinus, and clear the mind (I’m not an expert in oils, so that’s just how it makes me feel).
Can I use different kinds of essential oils?
You could use different kinds of oils in these Shower Bombs.
Besides peppermint, I think (affiliate links) Eucalyptus, rosemary, or cinnamon would be lovely. If you want to combine scents, just use 1-2 drops per oil.
Since my shower bombs are all peppermint, I used 6 drops of peppermint oil in my batch.

How to make Essential Oil Shower Bombs
Peppermint Shower Bombs
Equipment
- 1 silicone mold
Ingredients
- ¼ cup to 1/3 cup water
- 3-6 drops peppermint essential oil or any combination of oils that you like
- 1 cup baking soda
Instructions
- Mix ¼ cup water and oil together in a small bowl. Place the baking soda in a separate medium bowl, and stir in the water mixture. You want a dry, thick paste. If the mixture seems too dry, add in a little more water, up to a total of 1/3 cup.
- Fill the silicone molds with the paste, packing the baking soda mixture down tightly. Let dry completely (this might take a couple of days, depending on the humidity level).
- Carefully remove the shower bombs from the molds, and store in an air-tight container for up to 2 weeks.
- To use, place the Peppermint Shower Bomb in the corner of your shower, and take a hot shower with it there in the corner. It will break down as the water hits it, and release the lovely scent while you shower.

How can I make it if I do not have silicone pans?
Debi
Tammy, I highly recommend the silicone molds; it makes it so easy to get stuff out. They are even great for baking muffins or little things like mac & cheese bites. But if you don’t have one, and don’t want to buy one, I think regular muffin trays will work, they will just be a little harder to get out. Take a thin knife or offset spatula and work around the outside. Then they should pop out. And old ice cube tray might work as well.
Lorie Neighbors
These sound great! What happens if you have some left after 2 weeks?
Debi
Lorie, they do start to lose some of the scent (strength). Keep them in an airtigt container and that’ll help keep them nice. I didn’t have them crumble at all, but I could see that if you lived in a humid climate, they might start to crumble a little.
Maggie Theriault
If they were kept in an air tight container would the scent remain longer . . . or if they were going to sit longer would you use more oil? Just thinking ahead for Christmas. Thanks!
Debi
Both will work. I like the idea of adding a bit more oil to them as well. They will make great Christmas gifts! Thanks 🙂
Mary
They are called shower bombs, can they be used in a tub
Debi
Mary, the pH of the stuff you use on your skin is super important for maintaining healthy skin. Baking soda is Alkaline and can negatively disrupt the skin barrier. If your skin is nice and healthy, a little baking soda might be ok, but if your skin is raw and angry from any type of rash, acne, or abrasions, using baking soda is counterproductive to healthy skin. I personally wouldn’t want to use it in my bath. But, you could take a small dish, maybe a Tupperware so it isn’t glass, fill it with hot water, and drop the bomb in the Tupperware. Then, place the Tupperware up near your face/head so you can smell it.
