More ways to feel better
Looking for healthy sore throat and cold remedies? Well I have this delicious honey and lemon for flu elixir tonic for you!
This is one of the easiest, tastiest cold and flu remedies you’ll find.
I originally posted this hot drink for cold and flu recipe back in 2011 when I shared a few of my favorite homemade things to make you feel better.

Easy to make
This hot lemon drink for colds and flu is super easy to make, even if you’re just home alone. Squeeze a lemon, toss a few ingredients into a cup, and microwave. Or, you can make it on the stove top if you prefer.
Simple ingredients
It has 4 simple ingredients that are in most kitchens: lemon, honey, cayenne, and water. That’s it!
And, no vinegar to choke down in this one (like in so many of the home remedy drinks you’ll find on the internet).
Natural remedy
I like to use natural remedies to make people feel better whenever I can.
I know there’s no substitute for real medicines when those are needed, but natural remedies are great ways to feel better and know that they’re healthy and that they aren’t going to put more drugs in your body.
And, this isn’t intended as medical advice. This is my experience.
Heck, even healthy people might enjoy this drink.
Don’t give this to children under 1 year old, as honey isn’t safe for them.
I think this drink helps to sooth kinds of ailments
For cough
This is one of my go to drinks during cold and flu season. It cuts phlegm, and helps relieve a cough.
For Sore Throats
Sometimes coughs are associated with sore throats, and this will help soothe a sore throat as well.
For Colds and flu
This Cold and Flu Remedy Drink, with its simple ingredients, will help knock out cold and flu viruses right when you feel them coming on.
It’s a little help to speed up your recovery. You won’t believe how powerful a few simple ingredients can be! And how tasty they are in the process. Give this natural flu remedy a try.
Might promote weight loss
As it helps with my digestive system, making me feel calm and nice, I do feel like it helps promote weight loss. I also feel like it revs my metabolism up.
And, for sure, it helps wake you up in the mornings. That sunny lemon flavor and bright cheery bite of cayenne, this is the best morning drink since coffee.
So, I don’t drink it for weight loss, but I feel like it helps. Personally, I think better weight loss comes from working out and eating healthy foods. But, that’s a post for another day.
Now, let’s take a look at the simple ingredients…
Honey
It has antibacterial properties, which can fight infections and help you heal from a cold.
Honey helps soothes inflamed tissue, so a sore throat will feel better soon.
Lemons
Lemons are loaded with healthy vitamin C and antioxidants. They taste great. They have antibacterial and analyzing properties that fight infections.
Lemon will increase perspiration, which may help combat a fever associated with colds and flu.
Taking vitamin C at the first sign of a cold to stop the cold in its tracks may be just an old wives tale, or how mom always told you, but some studies have found that regular vitamin C consumption can cut the severity of cold symptoms.
It’s thought that vitamin C increases production of white blood cells, which are instrumental in fighting infections.
Cayenne Pepper
Cayenne pepper works on mucus to break it up and keep it moving, so congestion is relieved.
Fluids
And of course, like your doctor always told you, drink lots of fluids. This helps keep everything moving through the body, and hopefully helps move the yucky stuff out more quickly.
And, besides…this drink just tastes good! It’s good. It soothes and coats. It’s comforting. It tastes yummy.

This is terrific information, especially this time of year. I’m feeling fine, but I like to drink things like this to make me feel fine through the cold and flu season! And this drink was tasty even though I’m not sick!

This was delicious and easy to make. I like that it’s just stuff I have in the house anyway – no medicine or chemicals. All natural. Thanks for the recipe.

I love to begin my day with this sipper whether I’m sick or not. I love lemon and honey together and the cayenne provides a nice little zing. It’s a great way to wake the belly and mind!

I made this a few weeks ago but didn’t have the strength to comment then. I love this and it tasted good. Made me feel a bit better too.

I have had sinus issues forever and so, I am always looking for home remedies. The lemon and honey combo is exactly what I need. Great recipe!

I have had a stuffy nose, headache, scratchy sore throat and beginnings of a cough so started drinking this a couple days ago. Cant do hot or spicy things so did leave the cayenne out but, used organic lemons, raw organic honey and Fiji water to make this drink. The cough and sore throat have eased up and I can breath again after drinking this a couple times a day. Does taste good and with the health benefits will drink this even when not sick.

Amazing drink. I have had honey and lemon drink before but the addition of the cayenne pepper add a new dimension to it. I love a bit of kick the cayenne gives
