This 4 ingredient Soy Vinaigrette Dressing is simple, well balanced, and so delicious! Made with common pantry items of brown sugar, oil, balsamic vinegar, and soy sauce, it’s great on any salad.
Making your own dressing from scratch might sound like lots of work, but it really only takes about 5 minutes and has so much more flavor than store-bought.
Also, use this vinaigrette as a quick marinade for fish, chicken, beef, or pork. It’s also great as a stir fry sauce.
This recipe has been on my blog since 2010, but I took it down a while back. I used to call it Sweet and soy dressing. But it’s so easy to make and so full of flavor that I decided to bring it back and share it again. You’ve seen me use it on my Tuna Asparagus and Potato Salad as well as my Soy glazed fish.

How to make
This is an easy & quick homemade soy sauce salad dressing.
Simply add all the ingredients to a jar and shake it up really well. If you don’t have a mason jar, just whisk together all dressing ingredients. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Can this be made ahead?
Homemade salad dressing is typically healthier than using store-bought products because there are no preservatives or fillers. You can also adjust the sugar level to your liking. These make this the perfect make ahead dressing.
This salad dressing comes together in minutes, and stores well in the fridge for up to 3 weeks, making it a great make ahead option as well as a last-minute dressing. You could even double the recipe to make a big batch for all the summer salads you want!
A vinaigrette is a temporary emulsion of oil and vinegar. They never completely combine, so always remember to shake a vinaigrette vigorously before using.

Serving suggestions
This dressing is great for any green salad like a spinach salad, soba noodle salads, and you can make an Asian slaw with it (toss in some of those ramen noodles! Yum!).
It also works really well as a marinade for tofu, beef, chicken, or fish. Be sure to marinate meat for less than 30 minutes, as the acid in the vinegar can make the meat mushy.

Changes to the recipe
You can always customize the recipe to your tastes. Like I always say, try the recipe as written first, then swap away. Here are some starter ideas:
Make it spicy: add red pepper flakes, sriracha, garlic chili paste, or a dash of hot sauce.
Add sesame seeds to it, ginger, citrus, garlic, shallots, or minced onions.
Swap the balsamic vinegar for red wine vinegar. Or replace half of the vinegar with lemon juice or lime juice.
Add a dash of sesame oil
Leave the sugar out or cut it in half if you like
Fresh or dried herbs are also a great addition to the recipe.

This has been a favorite at my house for many years. My husband even stopped eating any other salad dressing and only wanted this one. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do! ~ Debi, author, Life Currents
