Please let me know if you have any questions about this recipe. I read all the comments myself and I try to help as soon as I can. I have readers from all levels of comfort and experience in the kitchen on my site, and I’ve tried to answer some of your questions already in the post. But if I’ve missed anything, please feel free to leave a comment and ask.

Do strawberries and cream cheese go together?

Oh, heck yes! Sweet strawberries and creamy tangy cream cheese are a perfect pair up.

There are several brands of pre-made strawberry cream cheese at the grocery stores. But this recipe takes it up a notch with almond, and homemade is always so much tastier with fresh strawberries. Nothing beats it.

How to make

ingredients on left and almond paste in a food processor on right.

This quick spread, dip, or dessert comes together quickly and easily in the food processor.

I recommend Philadelphia brand cream cheese.

Start with the almond paste so that it gets finely ground.

Then add in the cream cheese and powdered sugar, processing just until blended (do not over-process or mixture will be thin).

Next, pop in the strawberries and almond extract; process just until blended. I like to leave the strawberries a little chunky so you can see the pretty bits of red.

Cover and chill to allow the flavors to meld, the spread to thicken, and the almond paste to soften.

Storage

Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.

Serving suggestions

This is perfect as a spread on bagels, scones, biscuits, toast, or even waffles, but don’t stop there.

Dipping a pretzel into strawberry spread.

Use it as a dip with pretzel crisps, Triscuits, crackers, Nilla wafers, graham crackers, or other cookies. The saltiness of the cracker with the sweet cheese and berries are a lovely combination.

Desserts: it can be a filling for puff pastry Danish; use it as a pie filling: just top baked pie crust or a graham cracker crust with the cream cheese and top with lots of fresh strawberries.

Use it like frosting on cakes or cookies.

Make a fancy strawberry shortcake with chocolate chip biscuits, this spread, sliced strawberries, and add some whipped cream for a really decadent treat.

Breakfast bagel ideas

This cream cheese spread simply rocks on homemade bagels! Try my 3 ingredient bagels or more traditional egg bagels.

A bagel bar is a fun brunch idea! Have a variety of spreads and seasonings available like Garlic & Herb Cheese Spread, Everything Bagel Seasoning, Sun Dried Tomato Spread, Homemade Hummus, and feta cheese spread.

Changes to the recipe

Strawberries are always a hit, but feel free to use any berry that you like: blackberries, blueberries, raspberries. Even try peaches or pineapple.

Make it less sweet by leaving out the powdered sugar, or use a sugar alternative if desired.

Use a light cream cheese for fewer calories and less fat.

Can I use frozen strawberries?

Yes, you can use frozen strawberries but make sure they’re completely thawed and drained of any juices that run off. The extra juices will make the mixture too thin.

Ingredients

  • 3 ounces almond paste
  • 8 ounce tub cream cheese softened to room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • ½ cup chopped fresh strawberries
  • ¼ teaspoon almond extract

Instructions

  • Place almond paste in a food processor, and process until it’s very finely ground. Add cream cheese and powdered sugar; process just until blended (do not over-process or mixture will be thin). Add strawberries and almond extract; process just until blended. Cover and chill at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld, the spread to thicken, and the almond paste to soften.

Notes

Makes about 1⅓ cups, serving size: 2 tablespoons, about 10 & ½ servings
I recommend Philadelphia brand cream cheese.
Cream cheese spread will be a little lumpy at first from the almond paste. That will soften as it sits.
I also like to leave the strawberries a little chunky so you can see them, but if you prefer smoother, just blend longer in the food processor.
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.

You’ll want to eat this with a spoon! But it’s also good spread on bagels or pretzels. Top cakes or cookies with it. Super easy to make too. I hope you love it as much as I do. Debi, author, Life Currents
