How should I use this Feta spread?

Serve this Feta Cheese Spread with tortillas, crackers, pita bread, veggies like cucumber, celery sticks, carrots, or radishes.

Serve this spread alongside the olive tray with some pepperoncinis or briny olives; you’ll love the complementary tangy flavors!

Spread it on Everything Seed Bread for a quick and healthy breakfast

Feta cheese is a natural candidate for a tailgating snack spread or dip. Its flavor is tangy and salty, both flavors that are great on any appetizer table.

This spread will also work great for a Thanksgiving or Christmas holiday spread.

It also works great on a main dish.

Spread it over chicken for a nice Greek twist.

Crumble it into a main dish salad.

Smear it into a wrap of a healthy and fresh lunch.

Toast up some bread slices and smear it on top. Pop it under the broiler for a nice toasty effect. The feta won’t melt, but it will get wonderfully tasty.

What is Feta Cheese?

Feta cheese is a sheep’s milk cheese (or a mixture of sheep and goat’s milk) that’s made in Greece. It’s an aged brined curd white cheese.

It’s a salty, crumbly, and tangy cheese, commonly produced in blocks, with a slightly grainy texture. My husband calls it a stinky feet cheese because it has a pungent fragrance.

Feta is a great appetizer cheese.

It’s often used as a cheese on a cheese platter. It’s great in dips and spreads. Like in My Creamy Roasted Red Pepper and Feta Dip or my Mediterranean Avocado Feta Dip.

It can be crumbled into salads, or it can be served cooked, as in an omelet.

It’s also often used as a substitute for other salty cheeses. It can be used in Mexican Street Corn  instead of Cotija or in a Shrimp Bowl.

Feta is great over roasted beets. There’s something so wonderful about earthy oven roasted beets topped with tangy feta cheese.

How to soften cream cheese

My recipe calls for softened cream cheese. Yes, you can do it the old school way by placing it on the counter and waiting for it to soften.

But, if you live in a cold place, or if you’re concerned about food safety handing and making sure the cream cheese doesn’t go bad, here’s the quick way to soften the cream cheese.

Place the completely unwrapped package of cream cheese, or whatever portion of the package you wan to use, in a microwaveable bowl. Microwave on HIGH for 10 seconds or just until softened.

Remember, microwave power can vary greatly. I have a 1300 watt microwave, so I always error on the side of under softening, and having to pop it back in for another 5 seconds or until it’s softened to my liking.
