Delicious Baked Cream Cheese French Toast Casserole that you can make ahead or make the same day (your choice). It’s super easy to make, and really delicious. I also love that it makes it easy to serve a big family or a crowd.

This French toast casserole is packed full of sweet cream cheese, vanilla, and cinnamon! The cream cheese bakes up with a cheesecake flavor around the French toast, and it has just the right hint of cinnamon.

For years I made this Cream Cheese French Toast Casserole for my mom for mother’s day. I haven’t made it in years, so it was fun to make it again.

Make it ahead or the same day

This amazing French Toast Bake is just what you need to get you going in the morning.

It’s the perfect casserole dish for a make ahead breakfast. Make the night before and it’s ready to pop in the oven. It’s so easy to make ahead and then bake the next morning!

It’s perfect for holidays like Christmas breakfast or mother’s day because you can make it ahead and store it in the fridge overnight until you’re ready to bake it.

I also love this recipe because it doesn’t have to sit for hours to soak up the flavors. You can make it the same day if you want. With just 15 minutes of soaking time, it comes out perfectly.

Great leftovers

And, it’s great as leftovers! Simply pop a slice or two into the microwave for a quick and easy breakfast the next day.

It’s a great start to the day

Whether you’re making breakfast to serve up to the kids before they head off to school for the day. Or, maybe you just want a leisurely weekend brunch casserole. It’s always a great recipe that everyone loves!

It’s a great way to start the day, with a warm delicious breakfast. Serve it to overnight guests or for special holidays.

Use whatever milk you like

Feel free to use whatever milk you prefer, from whole dairy milk to lower fat dairy to plant-based milks.

Whole dairy or even half & half will have a richer creamier flavor.

A nice almond milk or vanilla soy milk would be lovely in this as well, adding a bit of nuttiness or vanilla to the flavors.

French Bread

Try to get a French bread with a soft but crusty texture. One from the grocery store bakery section will be great.

If you don’t get a crusty bread for this recipe, this casserole can be too soft and mushy.

How to Make French Toast Casserole

For this breakfast casserole, start by buttering, or spraying with non-stick spray, a 9×13 or 3-quart casserole dish.

Next, slice a loaf of French bread into 1 & ½-inch thick slices, and place the slices in a really large bowl.

Set the bread aside and use a hand or stand mixer to beat together the softened cream cheese with sugar and butter, and then mix in the eggs and milk.

Next, pour the milk mixture evenly over the bread, and toss to coat. Feel free to turn the slices in the milk mixture. Press down slightly on the pieces of bread to make sure they really soak up the egg mixture, and again, feel free to turn them as they sit if you’d like.

Cream Cheese French Toast Casserole - soaks for just 15 minutes, or overnight

Arrange the slices in the prepared pan, and pour the rest of the mixture over the top.

Cover and refrigerate overnight if desired, or bake up right away.

How to heat the French Toast Casserole

In the morning, take the casserole out of the refrigerator and bake in a 350º F oven uncovered, for 45-55 minutes.

Store the leftovers in the same pan that you baked it in, in the refrigerator, and re-heat it in the oven.  Or, microwave individual pieces until hot.

We love french toast and I love that I can make all of it at once in the oven instead of over the stovetop doing a couple pieces at a time while everyone else is eating!
