Garlic Sesame Noodles are easy to make, require just a few ingredients that you probably already have in your cupboard, and are delicious. It’s a great recipe for a potluck; anything that’s already made, delicious, and can be served hot or cold is perfect for a picnic, potluck, or family holiday gathering in my book!

They make a great dinner, and a wonderful pasta lunch to take to work or school.

I first published this recipe in 2018, but it was time for an update. So, I’ve updated the pictures and the information along with the recipe all for a better reader experience. And, let me tell you, these noodles stand the test of time! They are so good!

Freaky Friday

Welcome to Freaky Friday hosted by An Affair from the Heart, with an excellent recipe for Garlic Sesame Noodles from A Dish of Daily Life.

What’s Freaky Friday, you ask? It’s an old-fashioned blog hop. Secretly, I’ve been given the name of a blog, and I get to choose any recipe from that blog to remake.

All the blogs participating in Freaky Friday have also gotten the name of a blog to cook from. If you clicked through all the way around all the participating blogs, you’d get back to my blog. Thus, a blog hop!

So, if you would be so kind as to hop around and take a look at everyone participating, I promise it’ll be fun, and you’ll get lots of new recipe ideas!

This time around, I’ve gotten Michelle at A Dish of Daily Life.

I’ve known Michelle for many years, and I have the pleasure of calling her my friend. I’ve even made one of her recipes for my blog once before.

I made her delicious Crab Imperial Appetizer when she had neck surgery, and we were all supporting her.

It’s always a little difficult to pick just one recipe to make. I mean, she has such tasty recipes like her amazing looking Peanut Butter Tarts or her PB&J Bars with Strawberry Jam.

Noodles

In the end, this Sesame Garlic Noodles recipe won because my husband saw them and asked me to make them!

These are delicious. This is a recipe we will make again and again. And a 15-minute meal is always a winner!

Michelle says, “you can eat it cold or warm it up slightly before eating”.

We also served some of the leftovers hot after stir frying them in the skillet with some veggies. It was perfect!

So, it’s great any way you like it!

These Garlic Sesame Noodles made a big dish full. We got 6 or 7 servings out of it.

Are sesame noodles better hot or cold?

Honestly, you can’t go wrong with this recipe. Eat it hot when it’s freshly made. Or, eat it cold from the fridge.

It’s also great at room temperature, and the nice thing about it is that it can sit out at room temp for a while and you don’t have to worry about it going bad.

More potluck ideas

Have you been asked to bring something to an Asian potluck?

You can’t go wrong by bringing some of these impressive dishes!

  • Udon Noodle Salad
  • Sweet potato Rice Balls
  • Asian chickpea salad
  • Honey orange roasted broccoli
  • Peanut rice noodles
  • Sticky coconut cake

I love that these can be served cold or at room temperature, which makes them perfect for potlucks or picnics!

Garlic Sesame Noodles can be served plain too!

How to make this recipe

Bring a large pot of water to a boil and cook the pasta according to package instructions.

While the pasta is cooking, prep the sauce. It’s super easy, just mince the garlic, and measure out the ingredients into a small bowl or one of those glass measuring cups.

Asian sauce in a glass measuing cup with a fork in it to stir it.
The sauce is so simple to make

Drop the broccoli into the boiling water for a couple minutes at the end of the pasta cooking time.

Drain the pasta and broccoli, and toss it in the sauce.

Taste, and feel free to add any additional flavors you choose.

Garnish with green onions, and sesame seeds.

Pro tip: the sauce is the perfect amount for these noodles. If you are adding a lot more veggies and proteins, you may want to double the sauce. It’s easy to double the ingredients on the recipe card, just click the 2X button. And when you’re adding that extra sauce, just add it in small amounts until it’s just right.

Garlic noodles will keep for 5 days in an air tight container in the fridge. To rewarm noodles, pop them in the microwave, or heat them up stir-fry style on the stove.

How do you make noodles better?

These noodles are so good just as the recipe is written, but you can gussy them up even further with a few ideas.

  1. Add in some protein. Toss it with some Air fryer tofu for a vegan meal. Mix in some chickpeas, either raw canned ones or crispy roasted chickpeas. Add a scrambled egg or a hard-boiled ramen egg. Make garlic sesame noodles with chicken by tossing in some cooked shredded chicken (could be leftover rotisserie chicken). Meatballs and shrimp are also a great addition.
  2. Keep it vegan or vegetarian and boost the vegetables. See below for some great veggie ideas.
  3. Boil the noodles in broth instead of water to add a boost of flavor.
  4. Make them creamy by adding a splash of coconut milk to the sauce.
  5. Top the cooked noodles with some chopped peanuts for texture and protein.
  6. Like spicy noodles? Add some garlic chili paste, Sriracha, or red pepper flakes.
What veggies go in Asian noodles?

Healthy and colorful, vegetables add a crunchy texture and wonderful flavor to the take-out style sesame noodles.

Up the vegetables with some sauteed mushrooms, water chestnuts, red or yellow bell peppers, asparagus, sprouts, shredded carrots, or frozen green peas.

Cabbage and bok choy would also be wonderful.

Oh, and garnish with some chopped green onions (scallions).

There’s so mich to love about this noodle creation, I can easily see how it could become a family favorite and a perfect and affordable menu option for entertaining guests too. I can also understand where it’s versatility affords the option of complimenting any number of proteins from shrimp to steak and all things in between including a vegetarian tofu option. On top of everything else the Asian flare of this dish seems to elevate it to an even higher level. Thanks so much for covering this awesome food idea!

This is my go to recipe for potlucks now. It’s tasty and I always have the ingredients on hand! I’ve tried using asparagus instead of the broccoli which works really well, but I sauté the asparagus in a pan instead of boiling it. This is definitely easy to make gluten-free with gluten-free noodles and gluten-free tamari. Awesome dish!
