Creamy Roasted Red Pepper Feta Dip is easy to make and really delicious. The 3 simple ingredients come together in no time for a great versatile dip or spread.

This whipped feta cheese dip with roasted red peppers is the perfect balance of tangy and savory. This simple appetizer dip is easy to make for any gathering or party.

Tailgating Snacks Month and Freaky Friday

This recipe is a perfect appetizer addition to all your parties. And it’s nice to have a healthy option out.

I originally published this recipe in 2017, when it originally came from a Freaky Friday Blog Hop and the lovely “Who Needs a Cape?” blog (their blog is now down). In case you haven’t seen me post about Freaky Friday before, Michaela at An Affair from the Heart came up with the idea for this old-fashioned blog hop.

I’ve participated a few times, and some great recipes have come from this event. I’ve shared Homemade Onion Soup Mix, Mexican Cheese Ball with Spicy Tortilla Chips, Peppermint Patties, and Homemade Baked Potato Chips.

Some of the other recipes shared by other bloggers in this winter edition of this blog hop are Spinach & Artichoke Stuffed Shells , Dill & Garlic Marinated Cucumber Salad , Honey Mustard Chicken Thighs , and Bacon cheeseburger Potato Soup.

But it was time for an update, so I’ve updated the information as well as the pictures all for a better user experience. I hope you try this dip, it’s so good!

Greek appetizer

This gluten free dip is ready in about 5 minutes, so it’s the perfect last-minute party recipe. You can also make it in advance, just whip it up when you have time, and it’ll keep well in the fridge until you’re ready to serve.

This recipe is simplified version of the classic Greek spread Htipiti or Hpati, (which usually has roasted red pepper, feta, olive oil, and lemon though recipe variations are all over with many slightly different takes). The dip can also be called Kopanisti or Tirokafteri (Spicy Greek Feta Dip), depending on the ingredients.

I’m pretty sure that feta can thank Tiktok for its recent rise in popularity. I’ve seen all kinds of viral feta recipes there including this Baked Feta.

How to make

This minimalist recipe has just three ingredients, and is an amazing combination of the smoky roasted red peppers with tangy, salty feta cheese and a bit of creaminess from the cream cheese.

You can go with the convenience of jarred red peppers or roast your own. Here’s my guide on How to roast peppers.

If you use a jarred red pepper, you’ll want to drain it well. Pour the jar out into a strainer. You can rinse the pepper off with tap water if you like.

Place the drained red pepper, crumbled feta, and room temperature cream cheese in the bowl of a food processor. Pulse until desired consistency.

You can leave it rustic and chunky, go soft small chunks, or completely puree it. Your choice. You’ll see in the pictures in this post that I’ve shown rustic chunky, medium smooth, and completely smooth.

That’s it! This dip is as simple as adding all of the ingredients into a food processor and blending for a few seconds until smooth and creamy.

I think the food processor will do a better job than a blender; there’s not enough liquid for this to work well in the blender.

Traditionally, this dip is made in a mortar and pestle. That might be fun if you want to try it.

Garnish with fresh oregano, basil, or parsley if desired.

Recipe makes about 2 cups. A serving size of dip is traditionally about 2 tablespoons. So, you should get about 16 servings. But seriously, who eats just 2 tablespoons of dip?!? Lol

Refrigerate any unused portion in an airtight container for up to a week.

Can this be made in advance?

Yes, this is a great make ahead appetizer.

Make this dip and store in the fridge until ready to serve, up to 7 days before the party. Making it in advance will enhance the flavors. Just give it a stir before serving it if it has separated at all.

This is a perfect dip for holiday gatherings, game day, tapas night, and any party.

Serving suggestions

  • Pair this Cream Cheese dip recipe with warm pita, Quince Paste (Membrillo), crackers, marinated olives, or tapenade
  • It’s also great as a sandwich spread
  • Use it on baguettes, pita chips, or flat bread pizza
  • It makes a great pasta sauce

Soups, dips, spreads often make great sauces for pasta. Serve the pasta plain with red pepper feta sauce or add veggies and proteins.

Variations

There are many variations to this roasted red pepper spread, some are more traditional than others.

Make it spicy with some hot peppers either instead or in addition to the roasted red peppers. Add in some ground cayenne pepper and top it with some red pepper flakes.

Squeeze in up to half a lemon, or squeeze it over the top. You can also serve the dip with lemon wedges so your guests can add it if they like.

Garnish it with some extra virgin olive oil for a rich creamy taste.

Add in some roasted garlic, pepperoncini, red cherry peppers, sun dried tomatoes, green onions, kalamata olives, or even add in some yogurt.

  • 4 ounces crumbled Feta cheese

    The blog hop sounds like a fun way to interact with other great bloggers – and hey, you get to make good food too, so that’s a plus! I make my own roasted peppers every summer, and I’m always happy to figure out another way to work with them. I can’t say that I’ve ever combined them with feta before though. This was really delicious, I couldn’t stop eating. The salty kick from the cheese works really well!

    Oh I would make myself sick eating *all* of this dip lol! I have had something very similar at a Greek restaurant I love in London and I’ve been looking for a recipe to make it at home. Thank you both for sharing it so I can gorge until my heart is content (and full of feta lol)

    What a great choice!! I am loving the flavors here!! It was easy to make, I threw in some garlic and olive oil. A squeeze of lemon juice at the end. Served it with vegetables to it’s so healthy!

    I love roasted red peppers and the flavors that they bring. I can roast them myself but when they come in a jar with a great brine I am even more excited. I love how those peppers play with the tangy feta dip!

    This is so awesome and yummy. Best part of the dip is its quick and easy to prepare. Ingredients are easily available in our home. I have used it on bread and pizza.
